PU-RCSI Student Wins Prize at the Malaysian Society for Pharmacology and Physiology Conference
Ong Shu Chyi (PU-RCSI Medicine, Year 4) was awarded the third prize for her offered paper oral presentation given at the 32nd Malaysian Society for Pharmacology and Physiology (MSPP) Conference held in Hotel Bangi-Putrajaya on 8th to 9th August 2018. Shu Chyi presented her summer research project titled “Role of K+ channels in colon epithelial wound healing”. The project was performed in the Department of Molecular Medicine, Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, Dublin; under the supervision of Dr Viviana Bustos (RCSI), Professor Brian Harvey (RCSI) and Dr Warren Thomas (PU-RCSI). The other 47 participants in the competition were established scientists, postdoctoral scientists and PhD students from across Malaysia making this a considerable achievement by an undergraduate medical student. This follows on from Shu Chyi’s prize winning success at the Physiological Society Meeting held at the University of Leeds, UK in December 2017. Shu Chyi was supported by a Research Scholarship from the Physiological Society and travel funding from Perdana University.
