Prof. Dr. Jeevan Kumar Kenchanoor Shetty is a clinical biochemist. He has a bachelor’s degree in medicine and Surgery (MBBS) and Doctor of Medicine(MD) in Biochemistry from Manipal University, India. Prior joining to PU-RCSI, he has taught medical graduates at ST Kitts and Nevis, West Indies. He has vast experience of teaching biochemistry, molecular biology and genetics to the medical graduates in India, United Arab Emirates and West Indies. Along with teaching system based and discipline based medical curriculum, he also has an experience of curriculum design and development. He also  worked as a certified clinical biochemist and in charge of clinical laboratory. He is a friendly and fun-loving individual. He has a passion for teaching medical students. He is a firm believer in active learning which is mainly facilitated through small groups, bedside or laboratory. He tried to maintain a very lively and interactive classroom or small group teaching. To him, teaching is not about lecturing to students; it is about presenting theories, concepts, and empirical material to students in a way that they can integrate the information into clinical practice.

Research Interests

Keywords : Hyperlipoproteinemia, alcoholism, reactive oxygen species, tumour markers and antioxidants levels in relation to different grades of cancer,medical education.

Short description : Dr Jeevan has research interests in lipoprotein abnormalities, reactive oxygen species and its relation to disease severity in psychiatric disorders, alterations in biochemical markers in alcohol addiction and relapse and medical education (innovations in teaching methodology, assessment, study guides). Presently he is working on Medical education-related projects with focus on teaching methodology.
