Dr Manoj Valappil is currently an Associate Professor and Clinical Lead for Microbiology at Perdana University – Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (PU-RCSI) school of Medicine, Malaysia. He is also the Director of Intermediate cycle for PU-RCSI programme and the chair of the Research Ethics committee at Perdana University. After completing Medicine, he undertook specialist training in Clinical Microbiology and Virology in the UK and completed the Membership of the Royal College of Pathologists (MRCPath) examination and obtained the Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training (CCST) in 2000. Between 2006 and 2017, he worked as a Consultant Clinical Virologist for Public Health England (PHE) and the National Health Service (NHS) UK in Newcastle upon Tyne. His clinical interests include viral infections, infections in compromised hosts and emerging infections. He has a special interest in data science, especially microbial bioinformatics with respect to its clinical and public health application for the diagnosis, prevention and control of infections.
